Guidance for Loved Ones
A revised version of the Bar’s public information pamphlet on serving as an executor, Administering an Estate, is available as a PDF in the For the Public area of www.nhbar.org, or use this link: http://www.nhbar.org/uploads/pdf/admin_an_estate.pdf.
Printed versions of Administering an Estate will be available soon, and an update of the companion booklet, Wills, Trusts & Advance Directives, also is in the works.
Thanks to Attorney Don Hebert, Hebert & Uchida law clerk Glen Fries, a Pierce Law student, and Probate Court Coordinator Martha Wagner for reviewing and revising Administering an Estate.
Of related interest to caregivers and family members: A free booklet, Making Medical Decisions for Someone Else–A New Hampshire Handbook, is available for downloading as a PDF from www.nhbar.org.
This recently completed 26-page booklet provides guidance to those who may be required to make medical decisions for someone who is incapacitated. It was written for a general audience and was adapted from a Maryland publication to reflect New Hampshire law.
The booklet was developed by a working group headed by retired Probate Court Administrative Judge John Maher, and included representatives of the Elder Law section, the medical community, and others. The NHBA Elder Law Section and Public Information Committee helped fund its production.
To view the handbook, go to http://www.nhbar.org/uploads/pdf/MedicalDecisionsHandbook.pdf.
Printed versions of the handbook also are available. Consult www.nhbar.org for information.
