Mary L. Wade, 66, formerly of Norwich, Vt., and Lebanon, N.H., died at her home in North Stonington, Conn., on Friday, May 25, 2007 from breast cancer.
She was the daughter of Robert and Wilma Rives of Henderson, Texas
and was a graduate of Wayne State University and Vermont Law School. She joined the NH Bar in 1982 and practiced law in Lebanon for 17 years, first with Douglas Jones, then for the last 14 years with Jay Cooper at Cooper and Wade.
Wade was active in many community organizations, including WISE (Women’s Information Services), serving battered women; Hannah House, for pregnant teens; ACORN (Aids Community Resource Network), a support agency for AIDS victims; and the University of New Hampshire School for Lifelong Learning. She touched the lives of many children and adults through her family law practice and received the Vicki Bunnell Award for Outstanding Community Service from the New Hampshire Bar Association in 2006. She has also received several awards in recognition of her pro bono service.
Mary Wade is survived by her partner of 30 years, Priscilla Newell, and her daughter Raychel Wade of New York City.
