2002 Mock Trial Case Puts Student on Trial for Negligent Homicide
THE NH BAR’S Law-Related Education 2002 Mock Trial case for middle and high school levels is now available on our site in downloadable .pdf format. Click here to go to our "Mock Trial Program" page.
The case, State of Arizona vs. Terry C. Jackson, puts high school student Terry Jackson on trial for negligent homicide after an accident in which Jackson’s passenger was thrown from the back seat of the vehicle Jackson was driving and died. The passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and Jackson was removing a CD from the vehicle’s stereo at the time of the accident.
The Mock Trial case materials include the applicable laws and definitions, the affidavits of the prosecution and defense witnesses, and exhibits.
The Mock Trial Competition, sponsored by the Bar’s Law-Related Education Program, is an annual opportunity for students in grades 4 though 12 to get hands-on experience with our justice system. This year’s statewide competition will take place in March. The NHBA provides the case materials for use in the classroom, an instruction manual and assistance in identifying an attorney in the area who will help the class understand trial concepts and present the trial. Materials for elementary students are also available on the Bar’s Web site. This is the 16th year of the Mock Trial Competition, which is supported with funding from the New Hampshire Bar Foundation’s IOLTA program.
