Court Resources, Regulation of Profession Among Topics of MYM
THE 2002 MID-YEAR Bar Meeting presents a full roster of programs and activities to bring members up to date with opportunities and challenges facing New Hampshire practitioners.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at the Wayfarer Inn, Bedford, and includes substantive programs, a luncheon at which awards for public service will be presented, the Gender Equality Breakfast, the annual Mid-Year and Foundation Fellows Receptions, and law school alumni dinners to end the day.
The Court Funding Squeeze: Impacts on You and Your ClientsThe morning will feature a legislative update and panel discussion in which officials from the Administrative Office of the Court and judges and clerks from the lower courts will discuss how tight funding is having an impact on court operations, and what the future holds. The Bar’s representative on legislative matters, John MacIntosh, also will provide an update on the status of major pieces of judicial reform legislation that have been much discussed in the past year.
Mid-Year Meeting Luncheon. NH Bar Presidential Awards will be presented in recognition of the dedication to public service that is a hallmark of the New Hampshire Bar Association. An address by NH Associate Justice John T. Broderick, Jr., on the state of the judiciary and by NHBA President Peter Hutchins on the state of the legal profession will also be presented.
Technology: Threats and Opportunities. Strap yourself to your seats for an exciting trip through the perils and promises of technology. First, an environmental scan of the rapidly changing environment that is altering the way lawyers interact with clients and each other. Also, this presentation will unveil a powerful, low-cost legal research library specifically developed for NH practitioners that will be made available to Bar members later in the year.
Regulating the Profession. Major changes are in the offing for the lawyer disciplinary system and the Bar admission process. This meeting offers a unique opportunity to discuss these changes first-hand with representatives of the PCC and the Supreme Court.
