Scott Innes, Sr.
New Hampshire attorney Scott Innes died Monday, September 10, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua after suffering a heart attack. He was 51. Innes collapsed while coaching the Litchfield youth soccer team at a game at Campbell High School.
Innes graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1979 and joined the NH Bar Association in 1982 after receiving his law degree from Franklin Pierce.
In 1990 Innes joined Steven Ruddock in a partnership practice in Bedford.
Innes and Ruddock had a strong commitment to pro bono work and made an impact on the lives of many Pro Bono clients. Scott was a Pro Bono County Award winner.
Almost all of Scott’s cases were family law cases. ”I never remember Scott declining a case,” said Carolann Wooding, NHBA Pro Bono Coordinator. “He always took our calls and sometimes took two cases at a time. He even accepted cases, without prior discussion, through the mail. I think he simply knew how great the need was for Pro Bono attorneys to help in family law and chose to do something about it. He took the hard cases, the contested matters involving children and domestic violence and cases where his client’s economic outlook was certainly brightened by his help.”
Very active in his community, Innes volunteered with the Red Cross for more than 30 years and served as a member of the board of directors. He also served on the Litchfield Recreation Board, and was well-known in the community as a youth soccer coach. Those who knew him say he was a born teacher and never shied away from teaching a child to kick a soccer ball, throw a horseshoe, or roll a bocce ball.
Innes is survived by his wife, Robin (Revoir) Innes of Litchfield; one son, Scott Innes, Jr.; one daughter, Katy Innes; his mother Katherine (Young) Innes; two brothers Joseph John Innes III and his wife, Ruth, and Kevin Michael Innes and his partner, Vincent Andrews; one sister, Loraine Moore and her husband Dennis; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
