Holiday Referral Marathon Season
Referral sessions in which volunteer attorneys call on their peers to accept cases is one of the major ways Pro Bono refers cases. Pro Bono’s traditional December referral marathons are the most successful of the year and require the largest number of volunteers to staff the phones here at the Bar Center. The coordination is handled by Pro Bono staff, from providing updated cases, call lists, attorney participation information and, of course, food!
We need 25-30 volunteers in order to meet if not exceed the 100 cases referred by marathoners in December 2006. For the clients receiving referrals, their holiday season is made more hopeful by the knowledge that legal help is on the way, thanks to the volunteer efforts of attorneys in their communities.
As a volunteer activity, referral marathons can be fun! Seriously! Along with providing the opportunity to do good, they also offer the chance for camaraderie and catching up with peers.
Volunteer opportunities are wide open at the moment. Please help out Pro Bono and our clients by taking a slot. If you sign up and then find out that you cannot fulfill this commitment, PLEASE make sure to locate and inform us of a substitute. While we understand that things come up, we do really count on the attorneys who sign up to make their scheduled times.
The referral marathon dates are:
Thursday December 6 (following the Tax seminar) from 1-4 pm (lunch included). Please note that a Pro Bono Tax Project attorney seminar is being held from 9 am–12:30 pm and the marathon will begin shortly after its conclusion.
Thursday December 13, 9-12 and 1-4 (lunch included).
Monday December 17, 9-12 and 1-4 (lunch included).
Comments from Pro Bono Clients
“(Attorney) was the nicest man, I did not expect to be treated so well, being a Pro Bono case. He helped me and gave me advice not directly related to my case. He was so wonderful. I wish I could have paid him. I could not have wished for a better attorney, he is simply a great person.”

“(Attorney) was outstanding. He took the time to explain everything so I fully understood all my options and what would be expected when we went to court. I can’t say enough about how great he was.”
