Bar Welcomes Charles Huxsaw as Director of Professional Development

THE NEW HAMPSHIRE Bar Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles F. Huxsaw to the new position of director of professional development. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and a member of the Virginia Bar, Huxsaw comes to the Association with extensive national experience in the field of law-related business development.

As director of professional development, Huxsaw will assume oversight management responsibility for the CLE program. In addition, he will fashion other programs and initiatives intended to enhance professional development opportunities for New Hampshire lawyers and to strengthen the contribution made by the Bar Association in helping members practice law more successfully.

"The vacancy created by long-time Director of Continuing Legal Education Joanne Piper Lang’s departure, coupled with the expanded role of CLE staffer Joanne Hinnendael, allowed creation of the director of professional development post," explained NHBA Executive Director Jeannine McCoy.

"This position will not only maintain and enhance the Bar’s commitment to top-quality continuing legal education, but will look beyond CLE to connect members to the skills, services and products they need to survive and thrive in the legal profession’s future," she said.

"I am absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to work with the staff of the Bar Association and with the Bar leadership," said Huxsaw.

"I see my work for New Hampshire lawyers and for their Bar Association as a culmination in my own professional development. Making a positive contribution, however indirect, to the quality of law practiced has always been important to me. Now I have the opportunity to directly address what a bar association can do to contribute to the quality of law practice. I couldn’t be more pleased," concluded Huxsaw.

Huxsaw is no newcomer to New Hampshire. He previously served as vice president of development for Butterworth Legal Publishers (formerly of Salem) and acted as interim manager of Equity Publishing Company in Orford after Butterworth acquired that firm in the early 1990s. Huxsaw has, at various times, lived in Newmarket, Canterbury and Windham.

More recently, Huxsaw has been associated with the legal consulting group Altman Weil, Inc. and has had an independent business development and marketing consulting practice working with firms offering information products to the legal profession.

"We are thrilled to enlist someone with Charles’ breadth of experience and investment in the education and advancement of legal professionals," said McCoy.

Huxsaw and his family now reside in Bedford, Mass., where he serves on the town’s Historic Preservation Commission and is chair of the Bedford Recreation Commission. He has one grown daughter, two children in college and a son in the eighth grade. His wife, also a lawyer, works at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.
