Denice DeStefano Named Bar's Assistant Executive Director

DENICE DeSTEFANO, FORMERLY director of administration for the NH Bar Association, has been named the Bar’s assistant executive director, recognizing the central coordinating role she plays in overseeing administration and member services, said NHBA Executive Director Jeannine L. McCoy.

DeStefano, who joined the Bar staff 10 years ago as a secretary in the legal services department, has taken on increasing responsibilities in the Executive Department over the years.

DeStefano has worked closely with the executive director and Bar leadership, including coordinating Board of Governors meeting preparation and follow-up. She also oversees the BOG elections and committee selection processes, and has served as liaison to numerous NHBA committees, including Member Outreach, Ethics, Cooperation with the Courts, Constitution & By-Laws, and Dispute Resolution, to name a few. Under a new Board of Governors committee structure recently adopted, DeStefano now serves as co-chair of the BOG Committee on Administration of the Bar, which is involved in several major projects, including long-range planning for office and meeting space needs for the Bar Association.

Frequent attendees of the Bar’s major gatherings, including the Annual Meeting and Mid-Year Membership Meeting, will recognize DeStefano as "the answer person," as she has coordinated these events for many years.

"Denice is the most efficient and effective ‘juggler’ I have ever worked with," said McCoy.

"She plays an indispensable role in the operation of the Association, keeping track of the details and adhering to deadlines, exercising great creativity while keeping in mind the big picture. Her new title reflects the reality that she is taking on greater responsibility for the operation of the Executive Department and day-to-day administrative issues, allowing me more time to focus on initiatives to make the Bar more effective in serving its members, the public and the justice system."

In response to changes in personnel and the evolving needs of the Bar, DeStefano has taken on an expanded leadership role in recent years. The Executive Department and Member Services have been consolidated under DeStefano’s management, whose position now also includes oversight of Law-Related Education programs, facilities management, and personnel and benefits issues.

DeStefano, who recently moved from Boscawen to Bristol, worked for the NH Pharmacists’ Association before joining the Bar in 1991. She is married to Alan DeStefano, a realtor. They have two children.

While a Boscawen resident, DeStefano served in several town positions, including on the Budget Committee and as chair and vice chair of the Boscawen Planning Board. She is also active in the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE), an ABA-affiliated organization, where she helps to develop programs for its national meetings and is a member of its Scholarship Committee. DeStefano is currently attending the Antioch New England Graduate School Institute for Nonprofit Management.
