Personnel Changes at the US District Court
By: Daniel J. Lynch
The clerk’s office has recently changed some of the personnel serving as case managers to our judges. In order to assist you in expeditiously reaching the appropriate person, I have attached a new listing of clerk’s office staff that you will likely need to contact if you have questions regarding a case here at the New Hampshire Federal District Court.
Understanding how we assign work internally will help you identify the proper person to contact:
- Intake handles all questions regarding the filing of a new civil case. If you have any questions regarding a new case filing or the issuance of summonses, you would contact either Janice Boucher or Ann Mulvee. Janice handles all new cases ending in an odd number and Ann manages all new civil cases ending in an even number.
- Case Managers generally handle all questions regarding a case thereafter. Our case managers handle specific cases depending on the assigned judge and the last digit in the case number. Thus, by looking at the case number you can determine whom to call.
For example, if you wanted to contact the court regarding case number 08-cv-002-SM, you would note that the case is assigned to “SM,” Chief Judge Steven McAuliffe, and the last digit in the case number is “2.” By looking at the [list] you can see that Judy Barrett manages all of Chief Judge McAuliffe’s cases ending in the numbers 1 through 7. So, if you wanted information regarding case number 08-cv-002-SM, you would call Judy.
As mentioned above, the initial designation at the end of a case number denotes the judge assigned to the case. The case initials stand for the following:
SM: Chief Judge Steven McAuliffe
JD: Judge Joseph DiClerico
PB: Judge Paul Barbadoro
JL: Judge Joseph Laplante
JM: Magistrate Judge James Muirhead
- The ECF Help Desk is available to address any non-case specific electronic filing questions you may have. Thus, if you have an electronic filing question, you would contact Gail Adams, our CM/ECF Administrator.
Should you misplace the attached staff listing, you can access this information on our Web page at the following link http://www.nhd.uscourts.gov/ci/personnel-directory-list.asp.
I hope this is helpful to you in your efforts to contact the appropriate person to answer your questions in the future.
