Emerging Technology Poses Threats & Opportunities
THE AFTERNOON CLE seminar at the Mid-Year Membership Meeting offers a wake-up call regarding the direction that new communications technologies are taking us, and provides an encouraging introduction to online legal research for NH practitioners that will be comprehensive and affordable.
In a recent survey – to which hundreds promptly responded – Bar members said that computerized legal research, whether online or on CD-ROM, is important to them, but that its current cost is an obstacle. The Bar Association is actively pursuing access to a very low-cost, user-friendly online law library for New Hampshire. One such system, established by the Ohio State Bar Association and Cincinnati trial lawyer Joseph Shea, will be previewed during the afternoon CLE from 2 to 4 p.m. Brad Lagusch, who handles training for Ohio Bar members on the Casemaker legal research system, will provide a demonstration of this valuable potential member service.
Also during this program, Toby Brown, a law practice management authority who has helped many law firms and bar associations harness the potential of new technologies, will provide an overview of how the Internet is simultaneously allowing lawyers to benefit from rapidly improving technology tools, while posing new competitive challenges. Lawyers need to embrace technology not only to make their own operations more efficient, but also to provide greater service to clients, Brown asserts.
Don’t miss this exciting and practical program!
