The National Low Income Housing Coalition recently released a report showing that despite slipping home prices, the cost of rent in New Hampshire is high.
According to the report, the cost of rentals in New Hampshire increased 16.3 percent in the last year, the highest increase in the nation for any non-metropolitan area.
The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in the state is $1,012, which is 47 percent higher than in 2000.
A single wage-earner would have to make $19.45 an hour to afford that monthly rent amount, while the average wage for the state is only $13.73 per hour.
