Hon. Peter W. Smith
Retired Superior Court Justice Peter W. Smith of Bethlehem died recently at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He was 69.
"Judge Smith was an accomplished and respected jurist whose personal warmth, humility and kindness were admired and appreciated by all who knew him," New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice John T. Broderick said.
Appointed to the superior court in 1985 by Gov. John Sununu, he served primarily in the Grafton and Coos county superior courts. Though he retired in 2003, he continued to serve as a senior-status judge.
Superior Court Chief Justice Robert Lynn, who knew Justice Smith for 16 years, said, "Peter Smith was a wonderful person and a first rate superior court judge. He was hard working, fair, and dedicated to the superior court and the justice system in our state."
