The Inter-Pacific Bar Association, an international association of business and commercial lawyers with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region, is offering a scholarship to young lawyers to attend its 19th Annual Meeting and conference in Manila, Philippines from April 29-May, 2, 2009.
The organization, with more than 1, 700 members from 68 jurisdictions worldwide, offers an IPBA Scholar program to encourage attendance by attorneys who could not otherwise attend the conference but have an interest in business law in this region of the world. The scholarship pays roundtrip transportation to Manila, waiver of fees, hotel accommodations, a per diem of $20 per day, and a waiver of IPBA membership fees for three years. The application deadline is Oct. 31, 2008.
To be eligible, applicants must be:
• under 35 and in practice less than five years;
• fluent in English;
• have taken an "active role" in the legal profession in their country;
• be involved in a cross-border practice or would like to be so engaged;
• and, have published an article in a reputable journal on a relevant subject, or can provide other "objective evidence of committed involvement" in the profession.
