NH Dept. of Labor Employer Alert
It has been brought to the attention of the NH Dept. of Labor that some employers are mandating direct deposit and/or paycards and not offering a live check to employees. Every employer must offer a check for payment of wages at no cost to the employee, with checks on a financial institution convenient to the place of employment, where suitable arrangements are made for the cashing of such checks by employees for the full amount of the wages due. Please refer to RSA 275:43. Employers may offer direct deposit and authorized pay cards, at no cost to the employee, as a method of payment, but cannot mandate either of these methods of payments. Please contact the NH Dept. of Labor at: (603)271-0127 or Fax: (603)271-2668 or e-mail: InspectionDiv@labor.state.nh.us with any questions.
