Bar News - November 14, 2008 Get Set For Casemaker 2.1 – Coming Soon! A dozen attendees at last month’s Law Practice Management Brown Bag Lunch Workshop received a guided tour of an improved version of Casemaker to be released soon in the For Members area at www.nhbar.org.Casemaker is the online legal research resource made available at no extra cost to NHBA members since February 2002. Lauren Fry of Lawriter, Casemaker’s parent company, conducted a 20-minute online webinar that provided attendees with information on Casemaker 2.1, which is being launched on a state-by-state basis. New Hampshire should be online with Casemaker 2.1 before the New Year, Lawriter officials believe. The new site will be accessed in the same manner, and features the NH Library and caselaw and statutes from the other 49 states. However, the library search and browse options will be accessed in a new manner that makes it possible for users to pick and choose which libraries to search – all states, some states, or only New Hampshire. A new option will enable a search to be conducted throughout all of the libraries in a particular state – thus allowing you to search NH caselaw, statutes, ethics and Bar Journal simultaneously. Following the webinar, Bar members spoke with two law librarians from Franklin Pierce Law Center, Barry Shanks and Roberta Woods, who are familiar with Casemaker. Shanks and Woods commented on the Casemaker library and offered research tips for the attorneys. For the past few years, Pierce Law has included Casemaker in its legal research classes. This year, all US law students are becoming much more familiar with Casemaker, as Lawriter is making it available free to them through a service called Casemaker X, that also includes a professional networking/profile component to aid in their search for employment.One attendee commented that the brown bag workshop "was informative…learned practice tips that will allow better research with better time management.
