Russell F. Hilliard of Upton & Hatfield in Portsmouth has accepted an assignment to teach law courses at Tumaini University in Iringa, Tanzania. Hilliard is a former NHBA president (2003-2004) and is the current ABA Association Delegate. The assignment came to him through his church, the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newington, New Hampshire.
"One of the members of our congregation is Dr. Joseph Lugalla, who is head of the Anthropology Department at UNH," said Hilliard. "He is from Tanzania, and spends substantial time there, particularly in connection with Tumaini University."
Hilliard will be teaching at the University this spring; the law courses are part of the undergraduate program. "I am scheduled to teach a course in legal and judicial ethics, and to assist the Dean of the school in teaching a course in insurance law," he continued. "All the classes are conducted in English, so no translator will be needed."
Another member of the Lutheran congregation, Dr. Dorothy Kasik will be teaching there as well. She will teach communication and legal writing skills.
"We plan to do some traveling while we’re there, although nothing has been firmed up as yet," said Hilliard.
