Mr. William "Bill" Sousa (Merrimack Valley High School) has been nominated to attend a weekend seminar James Madison: Architect of the Constitution and Bill of Rights at James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange, Virginia, on March 27-30, 2009. He was nominated by Social Studies Dept. Head Peter Petrigno. Excerpts from Mr. Petrigno’s letter appear below:

"Mr. Sousa is considered to be our school’s resident "expert" on matters of American government and has been affectionately referred to as the "Mr. Bill of Rights."  Bill’s teaching assignments include: Civics and Government, American Politics, Constitutional Rights and United States History.  He has taught all ability levels.  He particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge and love for America with the foreign exchange students who pass through our halls each year.

"Additionally he is the faculty advisor to all our civics related co-curricular programs, including, We the People, Kids Vote, New Hampshire Youth in Government. Each year on Constitution Day Mr. Sousa delivers an inspirational address to the entire student body on the significance of our nation’s founding document.

"Mr. Sousa has been an inspiration to students for the past 38 years. Without a doubt, he is a passionate and dedicated American government educator who is most worthy of participation in [this] program."
