Daniel M. Cappiello Confirmed to Rochester District Court

DANIEL M. CAPPIELLO of the Dover law firm Shaheen & Gordon was confirmed as justice of Rochester District Court by the governor and Executive Council on March 6. At press time, Cappiello was out of town and could not be reached for comment.

Cappiello, 58, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1967 and was on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He earned his JD from New England School of Law in 1973 and was admitted to the NH Bar the same year.

Cappiello’s legal career began as an associate in the law firm of Alfred Catalfo, Jr., of Dover. There he worked primarily as a trial lawyer with a strong emphasis on criminal defense. In 1977, he formed a partnership with William H. Shaheen and Thomas C. Dunnington in Dover. From 1979 to 1981, Cappiello worked as a sole practitioner in Dover, then reunited with Shaheen to form the law firm that evolved into Shaheen & Gordon, of which Cappiello is a shareholder.

Cappiello’s practice focuses on real estate transactions, including landlord-tenant issues and construction law, as well as criminal defense, primarily DWI defense.

In 1981, Cappiello was appointed city attorney for the city of Somersworth, a position in which he served until 1992.

Cappiello is also a trained mediator through the Rule 170 Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. He has served as a Superior Court mediator since February 1993.

In addition to the NH Bar, Cappiello is also a member of the Mass. Bar (currently on inactive status), the NH Trial Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Strafford County Bar Association. He has served as a member of the NHBA’s Municipal Law Committee. He has also participated in a number of civic and charitable organizations.

At press time, a swearing-in ceremony had not yet been scheduled for Cappiello.
