Lesson's From the Trials of the 20th Century
2002 Annual Meeting Preview
AMERICA' S GREATEST LAWYERS are coming to the Bar's Annual Meeting this June.
See and hear Clarence Darrow defend Leopold & Loeb, battle against William Jennings Bryan in the Scopes Monkey trial, and defend himself in a bribery trial. Witness F. Lee Bailey's devastating cross-examination of Mark Fuhrman at the OJ trial. Watch Hermann Goring squirm and stonewall on the witness stand at the Nuremberg War Crimes trials.
The exploits of lawyers in the most celebrated trials of the 20th century are analyzed by accomplished CLE speaker and trial attorney Todd Winegar at the NHBA CLE program offered Friday, June 21, 2002. Winegar's acclaimed trial skills program, coming to New Hampshire for the first time, presents lessons every trial lawyer can learn from the masters:
- How Clarence Darrow confronts overwhelming bias against a defendant in a 1926 murder trial.
- How F. Lee Bailey undermines the state's case in his cross-examination of Mark Fuhrman in the OJ trial, and how Marcia Clark may have won the battle but lost the war in her cross examination of a defense witness.
- How Robert Jackson controls a hostile witness (Herman Goring) in cross-examination.
And there's more - Leopold & Loeb, the Clinton impeachment trial, and the Lindbergh kidnapping - presented through newsreels, reenactments, recordings and trial transcripts. Winegar will take you through the trials you thought you knew, generating insights and drawing lessons you can apply in your own trial practice.
This six-hour CLE will take place on Friday, June 21 at the NHBA Annual Meeting as part of a full menu of educational offerings, as well as recreational and social events.
This year's meeting combines the best of the Bar's two gatherings of the year - the high-level programming and accessible location of the Mid-Year Meeting as well as the opportunities for casual interaction, and the fine dining and diversions of the resort-based summer Annual Meeting.
Plan to come for the day or stay overnight at the Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth - either way, don't miss this meeting. More details on the Trials of the Century CLE, the NH Appellate Advocacy CLE program on Thursday, the recipients of this year's President's Awards to be presented - and other reasons to attend - will be described in future issues of Bar News. The room registration form, with specific pricing for Bar members, will be published in the next issue, along with the Bar's program registration information.
