Bar Foundation News: Hon. James H. Leary Completes IOLTA Grants Committee Term
Nominations Being Accepted for New Committee Member
James H. Leary | The New Hampshire Bar Foundation Board of Directors and staff express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Judge James H. Leary of the Nashua District Court, who recently completed his second five-year term on the IOLTA Grants Committee. Judge Leary led the IOLTA Grants Committee through this year’s difficult times as grants were reduced from the $1.7 million in FY2009 to the current level of $830,000.
To fill the open five-year term on the IOLTA Grants Committee, nominations will be accepted through July 31, 2009. The nomination form may be downloaded from the Bar Foundation website. The form may also be clipped from Bar News and mailed or faxed (224-2910) to the NH Bar Foundation. Current committee members include Ruth Ansell, Jamie Hage, Leslie Nixon and Michael Fuerst.
The five-member IOLTA Grants Committee meets twice a year. The Bar Foundation’s IOLTA Grants Program is a competitive grant process that provides funding to New Hampshire nonprofit organizations that provide civil legal services to the disadvantaged, law-related education, and other projects approved by the NH Supreme Court. The IOLTA Grants Committee makes funding recommendations to the NH Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors. For the FY2010 grant cycle (6/1/09-5/31/10), $830,000 was awarded to nine organizations and programs providing civil legal services.
