Family Division Ready for Manchester
Clerks of the new Manchester Family Division Kathy MacDonald and Sherry Bisson. | The Manchester Family Division is expected to start operations on Nov. 12 at the Manchester District Court building at 35 Amherst St. in Manchester. It will assume all open cases under the Family Division jurisdiction including all marital cases from Hillsborough North Superior Court, all juvenile and domestic violence cases from Manchester District Court, and all minor guardianships, termination of parental rights, and adoptions related to family division cases from the Hillsborough Probate Court. From that date on, all new family cases originating in Manchester will be filed in the Manchester Family Division – that is, divorce, separation, parenting, abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquencies and CHINS, termination of parental rights, domestic violence, minor guardianships, and DCYF-related adoption.
Future family division locations in Hillsborough County are planned, but until they are ready, all marital cases as mentioned above currently heard at the Hillsborough North Superior Court will be heard at the MFD, too. Marital cases heard in the Hillsborough South district, however, will continue to be administered through the Superior Court.
Judge John Emery, special justice at the Manchester District Court, will join the Family Division, as will Marital Master Nancy Geiger currently with the Hooksett and Franklin Family Divisions. Dana Zucker, now the clerk of Belknap County Superior Court, will become the child support hearing officer. Sherry Bisson, formerly clerk in the Derry Family Division, will be the new clerk and Kathy McDonald (Hillsborough North Superior Court) will be deputy clerk.
See page 28 for details on the launch of the Manchester Family Division, its personnel and procedures, and for more on future expansion of the Family Division.
