Morning Mail: Support for Civic Education Programs
The NHBA Board of Governors authorized President James J. Tenn, Jr., to send this letter to members of the NH Congressional delegation supporting direct federal funding for the Center for Civic Education, longtime funder of key NHBA Law-Related Education programs.
On behalf of the NH Bar Association Board of Governors, we wish to extend our sincere thanks for supporting the funding for the Education for Democracy Act programs (Sections 2341-2346, Elementary and Secondary Education Act) that are funded by the US Department of Education and implemented throughout the state of New Hampshire. In the past three academic years, 33,288 students in the state of New Hampshire have benefited from these federally funded programs.
As you know these programs include the "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" and "We the People: Project Citizen." These programs provide fair, even and equitable resources throughout our state. Additionally, independent studies have confirmed their effectiveness in the classroom in raising civic knowledge, skills and dispositions.
As President of the New Hampshire Bar Association I would like to invite you or your staff to observe these very effective programs in the classroom when it is convenient to your schedule. The Bar’s Law Related Education Coordinator, Robin E. Knippers, can be reached at 603-224-6942 or by email at reknippers@nhbar.org. Thank you again for your strong support for education.
Sincerely, James J. Tenn, Jr. President
