Attorneys Ski to Support Disabled
ONE HUNDRED PARTICIPANTS, including a number of NH attorneys, participated in the 13th annual New England Handicapped Sports Association (NEHSA) Ski Challenge to help support the disabled community throughout New England.
The event was held March 9 at Mt. Sunapee Ski Area. This year, the NH legal community and various law firms sponsored a total of seven teams, according to attorney Paul S. Moore, the president of NEHSA.
Of the attorney participants, a team fielded by the Manchester law firm Abramson, Brown & Dugan won the first-place trophy in the Masters’ Division and the Nashua firm of Jordan, Maynard & Parodi came in third in that division. Leslie Johnson and Rita Marcum, of the Nashua law firm Barker & Goldsmith, turned in the second- and third-fastest times of the day in the Women’s Division. The judges’ team, composed of William Groff, Dave Sullivan, Arthur Brennan and Wendy Branch, had a sixth-place showing.
Barker & Goldsmith also received an award for being the most fashionable team.
"We are hoping the [number of attorney teams] will grow exponentially as the years continue with the New Hampshire Bar supporting NEHSA’s outreach efforts to the disabled community," said Moore.
The mission of NEHSA, which is celebrating its 28th year, is the successful integration of individuals with disabilities into society through social and recreational activities. To that end, the group teaches individuals with disabilities to ski, snowboard, canoe, hike, and do other activities. The NEHSA also participates in events that stress the general public’s awareness of the disabled community’s contribution to society.
