Running for Justice Team Raises Nearly $10,000
By: Cheryl Driscoll
Ron Abramson and Steve Dutton | On Sunday, Nov. 1, over 20 attorneys and staff members from private law firms and staff members from New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA), gathered at Veterans Park in Manchester to participate in the Manchester City Marathon/Half Marathon on behalf of the Campaign for Legal Service’s Running for Justice team. The team raised close to $10,000 for the Campaign.
Attorney Dennis Ducharme of Wiggin and Nourie was the top fundraiser, bringing in over $1,600. McLane, Graf, Raulerson and Middleton attorney Ron Abramson, who ran 38 miles in honor of NHLA’s 38th anniversary, brought in over $1,000, as did several NHLA staff members. Team member Steve Dutton, also an attorney with the McLane firm, was the fastest team member, finishing 12th overall in the marathon. Tracy Haines, a legal assistant for Stebbins Bradley Harvey Miller & Brooks, was the fastest female team member, coming in second in her age category.
Abramson looked at the 38-mile running challenge as a privilege and says, "Covering the marathon distance and beyond served as a poignant reminder of the hard work and sacrifices which legal assistance lawyers and support staff make, as well as the difficult circumstances faced by lower income participants in New Hampshire’s justice system. It was an honor to help raise money to support this important work." The Campaign for Legal Services is an initiative to support New Hampshire’s primary legal aid programs serving the poor and elderly in New Hampshire: the Legal Advice & Referral Center, the New Hampshire Pro Bono Referral Program and New Hampshire Legal Assistance. Working together, these organizations provide free legal services to the state’s most vulnerable residents to help meet their basic daily survival needs.
