Domestic & Sexual Violence Conference Scheduled for May 30-31
RECENT RULINGS ON domestic violence cases by the NH Supreme Court, attorney professionalism in domestic relations cases, and the results of the latest domestic violence fatality review report are among the highlights of the 34 workshops planned for the Eighth Annual Statewide Conference on Domestic and Sexual Violence May 30-31.
The two-day conference - which each year attracts attorneys, judges, court administrators, and law enforcement, social service and health professionals - will be held at the Mount Washington Hotel & Resort at Bretton Woods. A registration form is available as a download from the Web site of the Attorney General's Office at http://www.state.nh.us/nhdoj/victimwitness/vw.html or by calling 271-7819.
NHMCLE credits will be available for certain programs.
According to Family Division Administrative Judge Susan B. Carbon, who helped start the conference during her tenure as NHBA president, this year's conference workshops will cover such timely topics as the phenomenon of date-rape drugs and the dynamics of domestic violence in immigrant families.
At the conference banquet on Thursday evening, an award will be presented to an individual for his or her "outstanding commitment to collaborative, multi-disciplinary efforts to reduce family violence in New Hampshire." The award is named in honor of the late William D. Paine, II, former presiding justice of North Carroll County District Court, a former Carroll County Attorney, and a longtime volunteer in efforts to assist victims of domestic violence.
