In Memoriam: James A. Sayer, Jr.

James A. Sayer, Jr., died recently after a short illness. He was 98. Sayer graduated from the University of New Hamsphire, Tufts University and Boston University Law School.

He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1943 where he served as a gunnery officer, and served in the US Air Force Reserves until 1958.

In 1952, Sayer passed the NH Bar and from 1954 to 1975 served as special justice in the Salem District Court. He maintained a private law practice in Salem until 2008.

Active in business, Sayer was co-owner of the Granite State Speedway in Dover. Sayer was also active in the community, serving as Salem town moderator, as a state representative, as founding director of the Salem Boys and Girls Club and the Salem Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; five children, James, Andrew, Stacy, Laura, and Wendy; and 10 grandchildren.

In honor of our colleague James A. Sayer, Jr., the NHBA Board of Governors has made a donation to the NH Bar Foundation, 2 Pillsbury Street, Suite 300, Concord, NH 03301.
