Giving Back: NHWBA Feeds the Hungry
For the past three years, the NH Women’s Bar Association (NHWBA) has been taking part in the food drive which the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations directs in the spring to feed hungry children through the summer months, especially since they will not be in school and therefore will not be provided with hot lunches. Food items and monetary donations brought in by the drive go to the over-burdened NH Food Bank.
The goal of the NHWBA this year was 3000 food items and $3000 in donations. Food collection boxes were placed in many law offices from April 18-May 13.
Also, on Nov. 18, 2010, the NHWBA volunteered at the New Horizons Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry in Manchester, NH. Says Nicole Morse, NHWBA public relations officer, "Each year New Horizons distributes hundreds of turkey dinner baskets during the holiday season to families in need throughout the greater Manchester area. There is a critical need not only for food donations of dinner staples like canned vegetables, jarred gravy and boxed rice and instant potatoes, but also for volunteers to help pack the boxes with nonperishable food items in preparation for their distribution."
Food/monetary donations are accepted anytime throughout the year, however. Contact Cathy Shanelaris, county representative for Hillsborough South, with any such gifts.
