Morning Mail: Commends Legislature for Saying ‘No’
Editor’s note: The following letter references the Bar’s coverage of state budget discussions, including the reduction of state funding to NH Legal Assistance.
To cut the public debt, you have to cut the public deficit. To cut the public deficit you have to cut the budget. To cut the budget, you have to cut government programs (including "entitlements"). To cut government programs you have to lay off government program employees.
Anyone who thinks we can continue to have massive government programs to solve all of society’s perceived "ills" and still stop the 40-year drive towards a bankrupt nation has no analytical abilities.
Every "advocate" for some government-funded program will always say, "But why my program?" It is human nature. It takes real intestinal fortitude to say "no". I commend the New Hampshire Legislature for saying "no".
