School Starts Early for Board
Writing and speaking exercises, and, two – count ‘em, two – quizzes, highlighted the first meeting of the 2011-2012 NHBA Board of Governors on Aug. 18, 2011.
Typically, the single summer meeting of the BOG is billed as the orientation session for new and returning members. This year, that orientation included several interactive components, including a trivia quiz on the composition of the Bar Association, its array of services, and the rate of participation of members in programs such as Pro Bono, Sections and NHBA•CLE.
After reviewing the answers, Board members also reviewed their roles as ambassadors of the Association and shared their thoughts on how to better communicate the value and impact of the Association. Also discussed were some of the critical justice system issues and economic challenges facing the profession.
The meeting, held at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, concluded with NHBA President Jennifer Parent engaging board members in a demonstration – again, in the form of a quiz – of the Civics in Action presentation on the Constitution that will be presented to Rotary Clubs around the state.
The Board also approved the appointment of attorney Samantha Elliott, of the Gallagher, Callahan and Gartrell firm, as the NHBA’s choice for the Legal Advice & Referral Center board.
