The reception was well attended by justices, judges and attorneys from around the state. The evening culminated in the presentation of the 2011 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award to Lucy Hodder to honor her distinguished career and outstanding achievements in the legal profession on behalf of women.
Hodder, a shareholder in the health care practice group of Rath, Young and Pignatelli, is a board member of the Women’s Policy Institute and was appointed to the NH Commission on the Status of Women beginning in 1998, and chaired the commission from 2003 to 2004.
In support of Hodder’s nomination, one of her nominators wrote: "In addition to her strong commitment to her clients, Lucy is equally devoted to advancing the causes of women to improve their health, welfare and well-being and to increase the likelihood of women’s success and achievement in all avenues of life. She has been an outstanding mentor and role model for younger women attorneys, both within the firm and around the state."
The award is named in honor of Marilla M. Ricker, the first woman to apply for admission to the New Hampshire Bar. The award honors outstanding women lawyers in New Hampshire who have achieved professional excellence, and who have paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession and/or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women.
