On the Way to My Swearing-in... A Happy Ending Story
On the Way to My Swearing in A Happy Ending Story
PAUL KLEHM, A Barrington resident who moved to New Hampshire in January 2001, was unfamiliar with Concord and was almost late for his swearing-in. But due to the extraordinary efforts of different Concord residents, the swearing-in experience of Klehm and his wife, Catherine, turned out to be a good one. Here's an excerpt of his account of the day:
"The morning of the ceremonies did not start off well for my wife and me. I somehow thought that the ceremonies were being held on North Main Street in Concord. I parked my car in downtown Concord and wandered around looking for the Supreme Court building. As the hour of the first ceremony approached, I went (in a minor panic) to the State House to ask for directions. There, a kind gentleman, who may have been the director of security, took me to his office and gave me a map and directions to the Supreme Court. I sprinted back to my car and made it to the ceremony on time. I am grateful for his generous assistance; otherwise, I might still be wandering around Concord looking for the Supreme Court building.
My wife, who drove to the ceremony separately in her own car, had a similar experience involving the kind people of Concord. She asked a cab driver for directions to the Supreme Court, and the cab driver (I think her name was Shirley) amazingly took time out of her day to lead Catherine across town to the Supreme Court building without ever asking for a dime. I think we're going to like New Hampshire."
Klehm also echoed other admittees' remarks about the intimacy and collegiality of the ceremony and reception.
