In Memorium: Thomas J. Flygare
Thomas J. Flygare | Thomas J. Flygare, an active member of the New Hampshire Bar and a past chair of the NHBA Labor & Employment Law Section, died recently at the age of 67.
He graduated from St. Olaf College and received his Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison before earning his law degree from Boston University.
Tom served as the vice chancellor and general counsel for the University of New Hampshire. He also worked at Harvard University and the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare. After working for Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green from 1985 to 1998, he partnered with Dan Schwarz and Tom Closson to form Flygare, Schwarz & Closson where he practiced law for 12 years. He became counsel at Jackson Lewis in 2010.
Tom served on the board of directors of Measured Progress and was also a member of the ABA Committee on Government Bargaining and Employment Law, the NH Council of School Attorneys and served on the board of trustees at Exeter Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy and his children, Melisa, Chris and Julie, as well as his step-family, Robert Lawrence, Brenda McKenna, Thom DeFelice and his grandchildren, Thomas, Samuel, Molly and Emily.
