Join a Section, Gain Expertise
MEMBERSHIP IN ONE or more of the New Hampshire Bar Association's sections provides an opportunity for improving knowledge and skills in a particular practice area. Over 2,500 NHBA members currently belong to one or more of the Bar's 20 currently active sections, which cover a wide array of practice areas, from family law to technology.
Listed below are five of the 20 currently active NHBA sections. We will be periodically highlighting the NHBA's active sections in "In Your Corner." Health Law, John A. Malmberg, chair; Andrew B. Eills, vice chair – Established in 1996, this section meets regularly throughout the year to provide members with opportunities to improve their professional knowledge and skills in the practice of health law.
Law Practice Management, Arthur G. Greene, chair – This section, composed of approximately 40 members, meets regularly to study the economic conditions of lawyers in New Hampshire. The LPM Section is committed to the development of a variety of law office economics-related programs or information services to assist in the efficient, effective and professional management of law firms. In 2001, this section created the "Client Relations: Forms, Letters and Useful Information" booklet, which is available to all members of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
Mental and Physical Disabilities Law, Elaine M. Beauchesne, chair – Quarterly meetings of this section provide a forum for members to discuss topics of interest and exchange information pertaining to new developments in providing representation to individuals with disabilities.
Municipal and Governmental Law, Benjamin D. Frost, chair – This section meets 10 times a year to discuss topics of mutual interest, including town meeting issues, municipal utilities and an annual legislative update, among others. There are approximately 150 members of this section.
Public Sector Law, Gyda DiCosola, chair – Established in 1996, this section meets regularly throughout the year to discuss and conduct educational sessions on issues common to public sector attorneys. The section also plans to work with Franklin Pierce Law Center to promote public practice as a career opportunity.
