Larry Vogelman Takes Office
Lawrence A. Vogelman, a criminal defense and civil rights attorney practicing in Manchester, took office as NH Bar Association President at the conclusion of the 2012 Annual Meeting at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods on June 23.
In his first remarks as president, Vogelman outlined several initiatives that strive to build on the strong sense of community that already exists among NH Bar members, provide greater support to veterans, too many of whom are unemployed or homeless and who are committing suicide at an alarming rate. Vogelman also said he wants to provide a dedicated seat on the Board of Governors for the increasing numbers of Bar members who are licensed in NH but have offices out of state.
He praised his immediate predecessor, Jennifer Parent, for accomplishing the goals she had set for her presidency, despite a number of legislative and policy challenges that demanded attention. Parent’s remarks focused on gratitude for the support she received during her year as Bar president.
Also speaking was Jaye Rancourt, the new President-elect, who co-chaired this year’s Leadership Academy, who celebrated their "graduation" at the Annual Meeting.
The event included the presentation of awards to:
- Hon. Steven Houran, Superior Court - Justice William A. Grimes Award for Judicial Professionalism
-
Gretchen Witt, US Attorney’s Office -E. Donald Dufresne Award for Outstanding Professionalism
-
Philip Waystack, of Waystack & Frizzell - Distinguished Service to the Legal Profession Award.<
