Sullivan County Probate Deputy Named Latest Spirit Winner
THE NH SUPREME Court has named Sullivan County Deputy Register of Probate Terrena L. O’Connor the latest recipient of the Spirit of the Judiciary Award. O’Connor received the award during a ceremony at Sullivan County Probate Court in Newport May 30. The Spirit of the Judiciary Award was established by Supreme Court Chief Justice David A. Brock almost two years ago to recognize outstanding service by judicial branch employees.
O’Connor, who has worked for the court system since 1983, was commended for her quiet but devoted attention to her responsibilities. Probate court Judge Michael R. Feeney, who has know O’Connor since she began working for the court 19 years ago, said she is "fast, efficient and detail-oriented."
"You look around and realize that everything you have given her has been taken care of," Feeney said. "She has the spirit that this award is intended to honor."
O’Connor said she enjoys both the day-to-day activity in the Newport courthouse and the challenge of working with rules and procedures that are subject to change. The Supreme Court last year temporarily approved new probate court rules designed to update and standardize probate court procedures. "There is always a new law or new rule…It’s almost like getting a new job all the time," she said.
O’Connor said she was surprised and honored to be named the latest recipient of the Spirit Award. "To be recognized certainly makes everything worthwhile," O’Connor said about her many years of service to the court system.
Through the Spirit of the Judiciary program this year, members of the Supreme Court will be visiting courthouses around the state "to honor dedicated employees for their commitment both to the justice system and to the citizens of New Hampshire," said Chief Justice Brock. "These employees are essential to the administration of justice and they deserve our thanks," he said.
