Foreclosure Aid Approved
The collaborative plan involving NH Bar legal services and other legal aid providers to help NH residents with foreclosure problems has cleared its last funding hurdle.
On Thursday, Nov. 8, the NH Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee approved the release of about $1 million over the next year for the four entities. The funding will be relayed through the NH Department of Justice, from the state’s share of a national settlement with large banks over questionable lending and foreclosure practices.
The NH Bar’s Legal Services Program will work with New Hampshire Legal Aid, the Legal Advice & Referral Center, and the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority to provide affected homeowners with information and access to a range of legal services. NHBA Legal Services also plans to offer specialized training for attorneys taking foreclosure-related cases.
More information will be provided as the program is established.
