NH's Lawyer Population

ACCORDING TO A compilation of data by the ABA, there are more than 1 million active lawyers in the United States.

The top 10 states (and DC) are ranked by the number of practicing lawyers, with the state's overall population rank in parentheses:

2.	New York 122,000 (3)
3.	Illinois 68,321 (5)
4.	Texas 62,425 (2)
5.	Florida 51,468 (4)
6.	Massachusetts 46,608 (13)
7.	Pennsylvania 40,575 (6)

Female Lawyers Say Aloha

Of the 33 states that provided a gender breakdown of their attorney populations, males constitute 71.4 percent and females 28.6 percent of the population. NH's percentage of female attorneys was slightly higher than the US average at 31 percent. Hawaii and Delaware reported the largest percentages of female attorneys (45 and 40 percent respectively) while Utah and Colorado had the lowest percentages (18 and 15 percent).
