Paralegal Association Awards
CINDEE CARTER, of the NHBA Pro Bono Referral Program staff, and Concord attorney Michael Pignatelli were recently honored by the Paralegal Association of New Hampshire (PANH).
PANH's Sept. 20 Annual Meeting, attended by approximately 35 members, also included a presentation on identity theft, a discussion by a court procedures panel and a panel discussion on the issue of child abuse in divorce.
Carter, associate pro bono coordinator and a trained paralegal, was the recipient of the first-ever President's Award for Distinguished Service to the Board. The PANH Board of Directors board presented the award to recognize Carter's outstanding work on the board, particularly her efforts to "close the gap" between PANH and the Bar, according to Linda Racette, past president of PANH. "Cindee has gained the respect and admiration of the board and the PANH," said Racette.
Attorney Michael Pignatelli, of Rath, Young & Pignatelli, Concord, was the recipient of this year's PANH Attorney of the Year Award. The award is presented to the attorney who best promotes the paralegal profession, best utilizes paralegals, or has supported the PANH. "Michael Pignatelli was chosen on the basis of his promotion of the profession within his law firm and the encouragement he gives to the paralegals who work at his firm," said Racette.
Lee Durgin, of Cleveland, Waters & Bass, Concord, was awarded the Paralegal of the Year Award, which is presented to the individual who best represents the paralegal profession. "Lee Durgin has gained the respect of both her peers and the attorneys she works with," said Racette. Durgin has worked as a paralegal for many years and mentors other paralegals both at her law firm and in paralegal programs.
At a recent board meeting, officers for the 2002-03 year were installed. This year's officers are: Brandy Swanson, president; Deb Calder, vice president; Kelly Paquette, secretary; and Mary Anderson, treasurer.
