Helping Victims of Domestic Violence
MANCHESTER ATTORNEY PAULA J. Green of the Manchester law firm of Normand & Shaughnessy appears on the recruiting poster published this week to encourage participation in the Bar's Domestic Violence Emergency (DOVE) project.
Green, admitted to the NHBA in 1996, has been a Pro Bono and DOVE volunteer since the beginning of her career. Handling referrals from the YWCA Crisis Center, Green has earned a reputation for outstanding professionalism in her public service. "She goes above and beyond; she is always willing to share her professional knowledge, " said Carrie, an advocate at the YWCA Crisis Center.
The DOVE Project, using a team approach, recruits, trains and supports panels of attorneys who are called upon to provide limited-scope representation to victims of domestic violence at a crucial point in their efforts to separate themselves from their batterers.
DOVE, a project of the Pro Bono program, receives funding from the federal Violence Against Women Act, the New Hampshire Bar Foundation's Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts, and several United Way agencies.
In the next issue of Bar News: More about the clients of the DOVE Project and the high stakes they face in attempting to disengage from abusive relationships.
