Greene, of Manchester and Meredith, was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Washburn, Maine, the son of the late Arthur A. and Bertha (Hamlin) Greene. The family moved to North Conway a few years later. Greene attended North Conway schools and went on to graduate from Dartmouth College in 1936. He graduated "With Distinction" from the University of Michigan Law School in 1939, where he was an editor of the Michigan Law Review.
Greene was admitted to the NH Bar in 1939 and started in the practice of law with his father in the North Conway firm Greene and Greene. In 1941, he joined the firm of Sheehan and Phinney in Manchester. Shortly after leaving that firm, he joined McLane, Davis and Carleton, which at the time of his retirement in 1977 had become McLane, Graf, Greene, Raulerson and Middleton.
He was a member for more than 60 years in the Masonic Lodge, Mount Washington Chapter #87 F & AM, Signet Chapter #26 RAM Eastern Star, and Odd Fellows, all of North Conway.

He and his wife of more than 60 years, Geraldine (Giles) Greene, who died on April 8, 1999, spent 10 winters in Stuart, Florida, where they enjoyed boating and
fishing, and where Greene served as commodore of a local yacht club as well as financial officer of the Blessing of the Fleet organization.
Survivors include two children, Arthur G. Greene, a NH Bar member of the firm Dewhurst & Greene, Bedford, and Richard E. Greene, also of Bedford; four grandchildren; and a brother, L. Hamlin Greene, of Bartlett, NH.
