Court Office Administrator Named Latest 'Spirit' Winner
THE NH SUPREME Court has named Rockingham County Superior Court office administrator Marjorie A. Lang the latest recipient of the Spirit of the Judiciary Award. Lang received the award during a ceremony at Rockingham County Superior Court on Oct. 24. The Spirit of the Judiciary Award was established by Supreme Court Chief Justice David A. Brock two years ago to recognize outstanding service by judicial branch employees.
Lang, who began her career with the court system in 1980, was honored for her longtime commitment to public service and for her positive attitude and energy on the job. Co-workers who nominated Lang for the award described her as a dedicated, conscientious colleague and a "team player" who willingly pitches in to get a job done.
"She knows that working together, as a team, is the way to achieve the goal of an efficient and productive clerk’s office, especially when resources are tight," Chief Justice Brock said in presenting Lang with the award.
Supreme Court Associate Justice Joseph P. Nadeau, who served for many years as a Superior Court judge and as chief justice of Rockingham County Superior, also participated in the award ceremony, as did Superior Court Justices Philip S. Hollman, Kenneth R. McHugh, Gillian L. Abramson and John M. Lewis, all of whom have worked with Lang in Rockingham County.
As office administrator, Lang does the bookkeeping for the Clerk’s Office, helps with jury selection and supervision, processes orders for transcripts of court proceedings, and works with personnel assignments. In nominating her for the award, Rockingham County Superior Court Clerk Raymond W. Taylor said Lang "consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty to serve the public and convey a positive image of the judiciary."
Upon accepting the award, Lang praised the dedication and efforts of her fellow court employees. "I hope I do make a difference when I come here and I know that none of our efforts go unnoticed," she said.
Lang, who lives with her family in Newmarket, began working for the Merrimack County Probate Court after graduating from Merrimack Valley High School in 1980. She worked in the Rockingham County Probate Court from 1984 to 1993, when she joined the Superior Court staff.
Nominations for the Spirit of the Judiciary Award are made throughout the year from six regions across the state. The recipients are selected by a committee of employees representing all levels of the court system and the Administrative Office of the Courts. Through the program this year, members of the Supreme Court are visiting courthouses around the state "to honor dedicated employees for their commitment both to the justice system and to the citizens of New Hampshire," said Chief Justice Brock. "These employees are essential to the administration of justice and they deserve our thanks," he said.
