NHBA CLE Considers Programming for Out-of-Staters
THE NHBA CLE Committee, anticipating some level of demand for NH-oriented CLE from out-of-state attorneys seeking to practice here, is considering whether changes to the format of the Practical Skills program will be necessary. This program is a requirement for all attorneys admitted to New Hampshire and has been geared primarily toward newer attorneys. NHBA CLE officials are now looking at the program’s format, locations and scheduling to also accommodate the needs of attorneys who are admitted through the new admission-by-motion process.
On a related matter, the NH Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board has requested that Annual Sponsors certify the courses they offer that will meet the NH practice and procedure course requirement currently applicable only to certain Vermont attorneys. Under a special reciprocity agreement with Vermont that is likely to be later extended to attorneys from Maine, the experience standard has been lowered from five years to three years for admission by motion. Under this provision, Vermont attorneys in practice from three to five years must complete 15 hours of NH practice and procedure CLE to be admitted on motion. NHBA CLE courses that meet this requirement are designed with an insignia on course listings on the Web site or in print.
