Warren W. Waters
WARREN E. WATERS, 84, a former NH deputy attorney general, died on Jan. 12, 2001, at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, FL.
Waters was born in Yonkers, NY, and graduated from the University of New Hampshire and Boston University School of Law. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European theater. He continued his military service with the New Hampshire National Guard and retired in 1976 with the rank of lieutenant colonel, Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG).
Waters, formerly of Concord and Bow, began his legal career in New Hampshire in 1948 as a staff attorney with the attorney general's office. He served as an assistant attorney general from 1950 to 1953 and as deputy attorney general from 1953 to 1959. He was a public utilities commissioner from 1960 to 1962 and served as chair of the Public Utilities Commission in 1961.
Waters began the private practice of law as a partner with Cleveland, Waters and Bass in Concord in 1960. He also served as a special justice in the Concord District Court from 1969 to 1982 and as a member of the State Library Commission from 1963 to 1967. He was a member of the American and New Hampshire bar associations.
Waters retired in 1982 to relocate to Florida. He was living in Palm Harbor, FL, at the time of his death.
Waters was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Concord; New Hampshire Consistory; the Bektash Temple Shrine; and the Blazing Star Lodge #11 of Concord for over 48 years. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association and the Navy League, the Clearwater Yacht Club and the Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels. Survivors include his wife, Gloria H., of Palm Harbor, FL; a son, William L., St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter, Nancy L. Whitford, Houston, TX; and two grandsons, William II and Christopher Waters, both of St. Petersburg, FL.
A memorial service was held Jan. 17, 2001, at Serenity Gardens Chapel, Largo, FL.
The NHBA Board of Governors has remembered Warren W. Waters by making a donation in his name to the NH Bar Foundation, 112 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301.
