Bar News - February 22, 2013 Court to Select e-Court Vendor Soon By: Kristen Senz About 50 people turned out for a briefing on the progress of the NH e-Court Project at the Administrative Office of the Courts on Feb. 5. Peter Croteau, chief technology officer for the court system, said project leaders are still looking into whether the eventual paperless court will have the ability to connect directly with law practice management software used by attorneys in their offices. One member of the audience expressed concern that not all firms would have the right kind of software to connect. NH Supreme Court Chief Justice Linda Dalianis said court officials would work with the NH Bar Association to create and conduct a survey of members regarding certain features of the overall e-court system, a multi-million-dollar project that will encompass 122 different types of cases in 18 categories. The court plans to use small claims cases as a proof of concept for the project, and Dalianis said those cases could move online as early as June. Five vendors submitted bids to the state by the Jan. 31 deadline in request for proposals released in December. The court expects to select a service provider to develop the system by March 5. Work on the system will begin sometime in April, Dalianis said. The new e-court system will be optional at first but will eventually become mandatory for all case types, according to Dalianis. The court has submitted a budget request to the NH Legislature, asking for $5.5 million to complete the NH e-Court Project. "People are looking favorably at us at the moment," Dalianis said at the briefing. Judicial branch staff plans to hold public forums on e-court progress every three to six months at the AOC.
