Bar News - February 22, 2013 Big Changes at UNH Law The UNH School of Law has begun the process of fully integrating with UNH and has announced some major initiatives that will roll out over the next few years. Trustees at the law school voted for full integration of the school with UNH in late January, and the University System of NH Board approved the move Feb. 1. The change is expected to be complete early in 2014. UNH has said the "primary location" of the law school will remain in Concord. All faculty and staff will become employees of the University System of New Hampshire. Since the two institutions became affiliated in 2010, they have launched two joint programs, a dual JD/MBA and a dual JD/master’s in social work. Additional collaboration and efficiencies will be made possible through full integration, the leaders of both institutions have said. Sports and Entertainment
Law Institute
The law school also recently announced its plan to launch the Sports and Entertainment Law Institute next fall. Michael McCann, who started a similar program at Vermont Law School, will head the new institute, which is designed for students who demonstrate a talent and passion for sports and entertainment law. In addition to being a seasoned sports attorney, McCann is also a legal analyst for Sports Illustrated, NBA TV, and CNN. "I’m thrilled to join a school which is deservedly renowned for its intellectual property law program," McCann said in a prepared statement. "To launch a sports and entertainment law institute as part of this program is a fantastic opportunity." Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Policy
Additionally, the law school recently announced the campaign to establish The Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Policy. Each year, the institute will select two Rudman fellows, who will be granted tuition exemptions, summer scholarships, and one-year post-graduate fellowship job placements. In exchange, Rudman fellows will be required to work for at least three years in government or public interest positions. The center will also provide 20 summer and eight post-graduate fellowships for students working in public service or with underserved populations. The official kickoff of the Rudman Center Campaign will be held Sunday, April 21, at the Grappone Center in Concord. Senator John McCain will give the keynote address. A conference on political and policy solutions to the debate over the national debt will take place the following day. |
