Celebrate Pro Bono Month – October 2013
Gov. Hassan has proclaimed October as Pro Bono Month in New Hampshire, honoring the thousands of hours contributed by New Hampshire lawyers in public service, especially the representation of low-income and vulnerable people in civil legal matters including family, tax, foreclosure, and bankruptcy cases.

In recognition of the tremendous service Bar members provide by volunteering to represent disadvantaged and vulnerable citizens through the NHBA Pro Bono Referral Program, the Bar Association is coordinating a month-long celebration of Pro Bono in NH.

Bruce Friedman Award

Bruce Friedman

NHBA Pro Bono is collaborating with the UNH School of Law Social Justice Institute to present an award to honor the accomplishments of a Pierce Law/UNH School of Law alumni member who exemplifies the commitment to public service of Friedman, the late founder of the civil practice clinic and a legend in the world of civil legal services in NH.

Steve Scudder, a Concord resident who serves as general counsel to the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, has been named the 2013 winner of the award, an honor he says is “beyond words.” Scudder will be presented with the award during a ceremony at UNH Law on Tuesday, Oct. 22, as part of the state’s celebration of Pro Bono Month.

"Bruce was a rare individual who could inspire you to run out and search any way possible to help others and make a difference."
