Nominations Sought for Fifth Annual Hollman Award for Gender Equality
The NHBA Gender Equality Committee seeks nominations for the fifth annual Philip S. Hollman Equality Award. Established on the occasion of Judge Hollman’s retirement from the Superior Court Bench in 2003, the award is designed to honor Judge Hollman’s efforts as a stalwart advocate for gender equality in the legal system. Judge Hollman was an original member of the Task Force on Women in the Bar in 1988 and has been a member of the Committee since that time.
The recipient of the award should be someone who has exhibited a dedication to promoting respect and fair treatment toward all members of the judicial system. He/she should also demonstrate a dedication to promoting gender equality and educating others about such issues. The recipient will not be afraid to take the initiative in matters of gender equality and by his/her actions and words will be a role model in this area.
The nominee may be a member of the bar, an employee of a law firm or a New Hampshire court, or an employee of a state department or agency which is part of the legal system. The Committee will review the nominations and select the recipient, who will be presented with the award at the Gender Equality Breakfast at the 2008 Midyear Meeting.
Last year, the Hollman Award was presented to Honey Hastings at the Gender Equality Breakfast. Honey Hastings is known as an indefatigable supporter of professionalism, civility and enhanced competence of lawyers, particularly in the area of family law. She has been committed to equal treatment for men and women, and has been especially outstanding in the use of gender-neutral language. The other past recipients of the Hollman Award are Linda Johnson (2006), Maureen Raiche Manning (2005) and the New Hampshire Public Defender’s Office (2004).
Nominations should be forwarded to either of the Gender Equality Committee’s co-chairs, Danielle L. Pacik (email@example.com) or Elizabeth Baker (firstname.lastname@example.org) by December 18, 2007. Please include a brief description of the nominee’s qualifications for the award.
