Members Approve Amendments

At a special membership meeting on Nov. 3 at the Bar Center, NHBA members in attendance approved a number of amendments to the NHBA Constitution and Bylaws. The bylaws changes take effect immediately; the NHBA Constitutional amendments must be approved by the NH Supreme Court. A petition by the Bar seeking its approval for those changes has been delivered to the Court.

Perhaps the most significant change in the Constitution and Bylaws is the creation of a "Public Sector Governor" seat on the Board of Governors for an attorney employed by a public sector/public interest entity. The proposed amendments in the Constitution and Bylaws was amended at the meeting to incorporate language that references the criterion for public sector/public interest entities "as established by the Public Sector/Public Interest Task Force".1 (See footnote to Article VI, Section 3 for criterion.)

Also, in Article I, section 2, all Bar members will now be required to provide an e-mail address to the Bar Association. Most of the other amendments largely make housekeeping changes to reflect current practice such as Association correspondence and the role of the NHBA treasurer.
