Keeping up with the Times: NHBA Conducts First Electronic Election

Jennifer Parent

Lawrence Vogelman
The 2010 NHBA Board of Governors’ election was conducted electronically this year. In an uncontested election, Bar members submitted 750 ballots online. This number compares with 889 ballots submitted by mail in the last uncontested election in 2006.

Marilyn McNamara, as president-elect, will move into the president’s position in June, when James J. Tenn, Jr. steps down. Jennifer Parent will become president-elect for the 2010-2011 Bar year, while Lawrence Vogelman moves into the vice president’s spot. Eric Cook will become governor-at large and Russell F. Hilliard will remain the NHBA delegate to the ABA.

County governors are as follows:
  • Belknap County: Catherine Broderick
  • Carroll County: Christopher T. Meier
  • Hillsborough North County: Victor W. Dahar
  • Hillsborough South County: Robert Shepard
  • Strafford County: Christopher T. Regan
  • Sullivan County: Tanner Z. Nolin
An amendment to the NHBA constitution and by-laws enabled this year’s switch to online elections. Going to the online format saves time for those who vote – and for those counting the votes. In addition, eliminating paper ballots saves the organization postage and printing costs. Also – no small thing – it saves trees.

The election was conducted by Elections Online, which provides secure voting options to ensure that results are not compromised.

Supreme Court Rule 42(9) requires all NH admitted attorneys to notify the Bar Association of any address change, home or office.
