Keeping up with the Times: NHBA Conducts First Electronic Election
The 2010 NHBA Board of Governors’ election was conducted electronically this year. In an uncontested election, Bar members submitted 750 ballots online. This number compares with 889 ballots submitted by mail in the last uncontested election in 2006.
Marilyn McNamara, as president-elect, will move into the president’s position in June, when James J. Tenn, Jr. steps down. Jennifer Parent will become president-elect for the 2010-2011 Bar year, while Lawrence Vogelman moves into the vice president’s spot. Eric Cook will become governor-at large and Russell F. Hilliard will remain the NHBA delegate to the ABA.
County governors are as follows:
An amendment to the NHBA constitution and by-laws enabled this year’s switch to online elections. Going to the online format saves time for those who vote – and for those counting the votes. In addition, eliminating paper ballots saves the organization postage and printing costs. Also – no small thing – it saves trees.
