In Memoriam: Leila (Lister) Maynard
Leila Maynard of Concord, the 25th woman ever admitted to the NH Bar, passed away March 21, 2013. She was 94.
Maynard was born and raised in Concord. After graduating from Concord High School, she attended the University of New Hampshire. She then went on to Suffolk Law School, where in 1943 she became the first female valedictorian.
At the time of her death, Maynard was the oldest living female member of the NH Bar Association. She was the first female selectman of the Town of Bow and served as one of the state’s first marital masters.
She leaves behind her children, Katharine Pearce, Tamar Roberts, NH Bar member Martha Jacques and J. William, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In honor of our colleague Leila Maynard, the NH Bar Association Board of Governors has donated to the NH Bar Foundation, 2 Pillsbury Street, Suite 300, Concord, NH 03301.
